One thing is for sure, we do age and as they say two things are for certain; taxes and death. One aging, famous comedian said as he celebrated his 90th birthday after a life of excesses, "if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken more care of myself !"
Anti-Ageing as a Medical Discipline
is fast becoming one of the most rapidly growing specialties.
- Baby-boomers and the next generation who are also approaching middle years want to retain physical, mental and functional good health as long as possible.
- Extra longevity would be nice but not with debility, disease infirmity, brain deterioration and dependence on others for the basics of life.
- Financially, many will need to work long into their older years as there will be little if any available welfare assistance.
- With extended family support less a priority, there may literally be no-one to support the older generations.
- Most importantly, we are 'discovering' that with conscientious effort, good diet, planned supplementation and hormone support, the decline in health and indeed the aging process can be optimised.
- More older people are doing better than those half their age, both physically and mentally. It can be done!
We aim to increase HEALTHSPAN not just LIFESPAN.
Many 'diseases' of today are really preventable, if we have the desire and need to do so. Much of this website is devoted to these preventative measures, but also managing conditions of aging already establishing.
- For example:
- Heart Disease
- Blood Pressure
- Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Cancer
- Bowel and Digestion Disorders
- Dementia
- Osteoporosis
- Autoimmune Disorders
Are we prisoners ?
We are not prisoners of our genes as much as was thought. Yes we do age BECAUSE of genetic programming and lifestyle choices but ALSO because certain HORMONE levels decline. These can be supplemented in a natural way to optimal adult levels.
Some prefer the concept of 'aging gracefully'. This also is 'natural'. We wouldn't hesitate to 'treat' a diabetic with missing insulin. Why hesitate to 'treat' a 50 year old with age-related deficiency of estrogen, testosterone, adrenal hormones, progesterone, melatonin or thyroid? Do we only 'treat' to prevent the ultimate symptom of death? Or can we not 'treat' to maintain good quality of life and prevent age related diseases? In some sense, ageing is really a disease.
Medical Drug Culture
There are paradigm shifts in thinking. As doctors we are programmed to depend on solutions from pharmaceutical drugs and unless they are synthetic drugs 'proven' to work we have few other options. Somewhere along the path of medical history we have been taught to be 'anti' anything 'natural'. Doesn't it seem bizarre that we have prescribed for example, 'natural' estrogens (natural for horses) for human women for decades, yet we have a mental block when it comes to prescribing human identical hormones for humans?
Well, its all changing for increasing numbers of aware doctors worldwide. Doctors who don't accept the drug-only culture.
Evidence?
By training through top World Academies and Societies of Anti aging Medicine and Bio-identical hormone supplementation, anti-ageing doctors have access to the latest, evidence-proven treatment regimes. A vast wealth of medical research is available; peer reviewed in top medical journals to support this exciting change in direction of medical management of aging. Its just commonsense! Drugs have their vital role and place. Restoring missing vital nutrients and hormones must be a priority, surely?
